Fraternity
Fraternity is a key element of membership in Clan Bailey International. Though we are not all directly related, we share a sense of unity; of kinship. The Clan Bailey Society hosts information booths (clan tents) at Celtic festivals and Highland games as a venue for expressing this unity. We have many clan members who volunteer their time to make this fun and educational. We encourage all Baileys and those people who are not of Bailey (or even Celtic descent), but who are interested in learning and participating to join the Clan Bailey Society.
Genealogy
We are collecting Bailey family tree information. The goal is to become a large web based source for all Bailey family members to store their genealogy so future generations will have less work to do.
Education & History
Clan Bailey International hosts Bailey's Academy of Celtic Martial Arts at our clan tents. This allows us to educate the general public in the history of Highland martial arts. We have hosted tournaments as well as seminars on the use of the single handed Highland broadsword at Celtic fairs and Highland games in the Pacific NorthWest.
Heraldry
Heraldry is a visual story telling who the bearer is. Each color and symbol has a meaning. When all of the pieces are put together, they tell the lineage of the owner.
A Standard is a long, narrow, tapering flag, granted to those who have a following, such as but not limited to clan chiefs. As a "headquarters" flag, its principal use is to mark the gathering point or headquarters of the clan, family or following and does not necessarily denote the presence of the standard's owner as his personal banner does.
A Banner is a square or rectangular flag showing only that part of a coat of arms which appears on the shield. A banner may either be flown from a flagstaff or carried in procession. This is the personal flag of an armiger which shows the arms, as depicted on the shield, and nothing else. The purpose of a banner is to locate and identify its owner and it is the visual equivalent of his name. Flown over his house, it identifies his property; elsewhere, it indicates his presence. The size of a house banner will depend on the height of the building and the pole. It would be large enough to be identifiable from a reasonable distance. The best shape for a heraldic house flag is square, regardless of its size. A smaller banner may also be carried in processions, either by its owner of by his appointed bearer. Such a banner is usually made in fine fabric and may be fringed. Its proportions should be those of an upright rectangle about five wide by six deep.
Honor guards to the right and left and flag bearer behind accompany the 13th Armorial Head of House Bailey, Douglas Buchanan Bailey at a Highland Games parade.
Thanks to Joseph Bailey of San Antonio, Texas, we now have very nice pewter clan badges. Actual size on these is about 1-5/8" by 2-1/4", and they feature two push-pin type clasps. They are available for $30 each (shipping included). Just send your request along with payment to: Clan Bailey Society, 16147 S Apperson Blvd, Oregon City OR 97045 USA.
Tartan
The House of Bailey tartan has been milled thanks
to Marton Mills. The tartan number is 6675 and can be
ordered from several kilt/tartan sites.
Scotweb is one site that carries the Bailey tartan.

We are currently looking into the possibility of obtaining a discount
on Bailey tartan kilts for our members.
Kilts in our tartan are somewhat more expensive than kilts in other
tartans due to the small number of mills currently producing the material.
Our idea is to place a single order for a number of kilts on behalf of our members.
Since a larger quantity of material could be produced at one time, we hope to
obtain a discount on the kilts. More infomation will be provided as it becomes
available.
